Where are your newborn sessions held?
I don’t have a studio so will come to your home for your newborn photo session. I only shoot with natural light so as long as you have an area of your home with good natural light (usually by a large window or glass sliding door), it will work great. Also, weather permitting, I love photographing infants outside as well if you're interested.
What kind of newborn sessions do you offer?
I offer 3 options of newborn sessions: Newborn Wrapped Mini, Newborn Lifestyle, & Full Newborn Session.
Newborn Wrapped Mini Session
This is a 1-1.5 hour session for baby only where baby is wrapped the entire time. These sessions are more formal in nature and work best when the baby is very sleepy and “mold-able”. The focus in this type of session is on shots of the baby wrapped ONLY and showcases baby in 2 set ups with choice of flokati fur, blanket, or prop (bucket/crate/bowl). The session can be done more simplistic with baby wrapped & minimal props. Many clients want a combination of simple images & baby in props.
Newborn Lifestyle Session
This is a 1-1.5 hour session for newborn & immediate family. Photos are casual in nature using client's home as the backdrop. No props other than 1-2 wraps and headband/hat. There is some posing, but the intention is to capture more natural images of the baby, usually just in the natural environment of their home or outdoors. There will be a mix of baby only, family, sibling, mom/baby, & dad/baby.
Full Newborn Session
This is a 3-4 hour session for both baby and family. Session includes lifestyle family/sibling photos & posed newborn only setups (flokati, blanket, props). This session combines a wrapped mini session with the newborn lifestyle session and you will also have the option of images of baby unclothed.
When are newborn sessions typically held?
I do recommend posed newborn photos be taken within the first 14-21 days of life, if possible. Babies are sleepiest then and most easily posed. Sessions can be lengthy and can last anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on the baby.
If you prefer lifestyle photos, those can be taken in the first 4-6 weeks of life.
Do I need to buy anything for the session?
I bring all of the props, blankets, headbands, bonnets, etc for the session. Although I love props, I limit the amount of props that I use so that the focus of the photo lies on your baby. I usually photograph babies with mostly neutrals and pops of color; usually soft tones. If there is something special you’d like baby photographed in of course that is fine. However, I ask that you limit the items as this is a part of my creative process. I love vintage props & a soft, organic, natural look on newborns.
How do I book my newborn session?
Once you decide that you'd like me to photograph your newborn, I will have you complete a questionnaire to find out more about you & help me prepare for your session, sign a contract/model release, & submit a $100 deposit (which of course goes toward the total cost of your session). Once those are completed, I put your due date on my calendar. As you progress through the pregnancy I ask that you please keep me posted on a potential induction date, scheduled c-section, etc. Then once your baby arrives, I ask that you please contact me within 48 hours of their birth so we can start coordinating a session date.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes I do! I've even had people add me to their baby registry so that others can contact me directly to purchase gift certificates toward their newborn session.
